Shamrocks and Roses 2016 Saint Patrick's Day Tablescape

It is that time of year again.  Cuisine Kathleen's Annual Saint Patrick's Day Crawl is today.  I wait each year to see what kind of wonderful recipes, decor, and tablescapes will be created in honor of Saint Patrick's Day.  This year I decided not to buy anything new and to use things that I already had.  Really I had the table all set up and ready until I went to Goodwill on the way home last night.  Oh My .....  I found a set of the prettiest green and yellow basket weave plaid or check pattern plates I had ever seen.  With my earned discount coupon I ended up paying $.65 cents each.  Well back to ground zero digging into boxes at my storage unit to find the shamrock bowls I knew I had late in the evening last night.  My Revised tablescape follows.....

King O'Dell Saint Patrick's Day Tablescape

A happy Saint Patrick's Day to All!   And a great big thank you to Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen's for hosting her 7th annual Saint Patrick's Day Blog Crawl.  All year I have collected little things here and there to put together a post for this occasion and today I get to see how my thrifty finds all come together.  The centerpiece is made from a basket I found this morning at the Volunteers of America Thrift store,  a wee Irish lass and her lovely harp also from the VOA, shamrock plants from Marc's (my favorite closeout store, and yellow   primrose from The Home Depot (4 plants for $3.00) plus a few odds and ends from the stash.

The tablecloth is actually a four yard piece of material from Goodwill in a lovely hunter green plaid pattern.  The dinnerware is the King O'Dell pattern made by Taylor Smith Taylor (a fine American made product), the flatware is Daffodil made by Rogers bought at auction from Goodwill, the Lillian Vernon shamrock placemats in the center of the table being used as a runner came from the Salvation Army Thrift Store,  the Lenox candle holders came from Goodwill, Candles from Marc's,  green stemware was thrifted but I don't remember where from,  the Lenox chargers were bought on Ebay (cheap) last year.  The green trimmed burlap napkins were bought last year when Pier One closed them out.  And my favorite - the cute little Jadiete bunny rabbit salt cellars were bought at the VOA this morning when I bought the baskets.

I couldn't resist adding the little sheep to the table.
I fell in love with this lovely lady the first time I laid eyes on her.
What's not to love about this St. Patrick O'Santa figure.
His music box plays "When Irish Eyes are Smiling".

The shelves have been decked out with thrifty finds too.  Some are new (new to me that is) this year, some are from years gone by.

St Patrick's Day Tablescape - Dining with the Leprechauns

St Patrick's Day

March 13, 2014
Dining With The Leprechauns

I married into an Irish family.  I have marched in the St Patrick's Day parade,  I make corn beef and cabbage for St Patrick's Day.  I decorate a tree for St Patrick's Day, and I set the dinner table on St Patrick's Day with shamrocks and leprechauns.  That's as Irish as I am going to get.

What could be more Irish than a leprechaun?  I do so adore the wee people.
St Patrick's Day
Long before I met my husband I was fascinated by fairies and leprechauns.  One summer when I was around six years old I remember going out into the yard and picking a three leaf clover and pinching two of the three little leaves off to make a tiny clover fairy doll.  I took a tiny flower head from a clover plant and placed it onto my single leaf of clover with a tiny dab of my school paste, then I picked a morning glory blossom (for my fairies gown) from our next door neighbors yard and nipped the end off to leave a tiny opening to slip the clover stem into.  This was my tiny fairy doll.   I made a little shelter for her from whatever I could find outside,  sticks, bits of wood, and small pieces of colored glass from around the schoolyard on the other side of our house. Needless to say my fairy doll wilted rather quickly and I would have to start the process all over again if I wanted to play fairy garden.
St Patrick's Day
My fascination with fairies and all of the other wee people started when my parents took me to see Walt Disney's Peter Pan.  Tinker Bell was my favorite character in this charming animated movie.

St Patrick's Day

Enough about the fairies, the leprechauns are the main attraction on St Patrick's Day

The lovely little shamrock covered plate on the top of the stack was bought at Marc's (my favorite close out store) the bottom of the plate is marked Shannon (and made in china).

The light green salad plate came from Goodwill (salad plates are fifty cents each and seniors get a 10% discount) it is marked GP Hospitality Collection.
The dinner plate came from the Goodwill Store near where I work.  Dinner plates are one dollar each unless marked otherwise.  The usual 10% discount brings the price per plate down to ninety cents each.  I bought eight of them  The were made by Syracuse China, they are marked 10-J  USA.

The chargers were bought off of Ebay - made by Lenox

The green plaid place mat is marked St. Nicholas Square.  Twenty five cents each at Goodwill (half of the usual fifty cents each)

The small Shamrock bowls came from Marc's.

The glass wear came from the Volunteers Of America Store (I think).

Have a wonderful St Patrick's Day!
