Shamrocks and Roses 2016 Saint Patrick's Day Tablescape

It is that time of year again.  Cuisine Kathleen's Annual Saint Patrick's Day Crawl is today.  I wait each year to see what kind of wonderful recipes, decor, and tablescapes will be created in honor of Saint Patrick's Day.  This year I decided not to buy anything new and to use things that I already had.  Really I had the table all set up and ready until I went to Goodwill on the way home last night.  Oh My .....  I found a set of the prettiest green and yellow basket weave plaid or check pattern plates I had ever seen.  With my earned discount coupon I ended up paying $.65 cents each.  Well back to ground zero digging into boxes at my storage unit to find the shamrock bowls I knew I had late in the evening last night.  My Revised tablescape follows.....

Happy Spring Tablescape for Easter

Another Easter Sunday has come and gone.  I had a wonderful day with all of my children together to celebrate Easter.   We had ham,  potato salad,  baked beans,  Slovenian sausage and sour kraut,  dinner rolls, and home made pineapple upside down cake.  I love cooking for my boys especially for the holidays.  Of course there were plenty of leftovers so that everyone could take home enough food for another meal.

Small clay pots from Marc's (my favorite closeout store) held a foil wrapped chocolate, a small chick, and a faux daffodil in a bed of Easter Grass.

The plates are made from a clear glass plate with a quilting square decoupaged to the back (tutorial to follow at the end of this post).

Large wicker place mats (thrifted) and butter cream color Lenox charger plates (an Ebay find) start the stack.

Lenox Summer Terrace candle holders (thrifted) and cream white candles decorate the center of the table. Bunny napkin rings hold green napkins with faux flowers tucked into the folds.

The lambs were an Ebay purchase this year from Replacements at a very reasonable price.

The napkins and some of the napkin rings were thrifted (the sixth one is part of a set that Marigene sent to me). I didn't have enough of either design so I combined them.

The following is a  tutorial to make the decoupaged plates.

The material is a happy Ebay mistake.  I had bid on and won a piece of Peter Rabbit material to use to make salad plates but as it turned out that piece was not available so the vendor offered this piece of quilting squares as a substitute for the Perter Rabbit material. The interior squares were 10 inches, just the right size  for dinner plates. A thin lightweight fabric is easiest to work with.

After spreading a tarp on my work surface (AKA dining room table) I placed the material printed front up and brushed my laminating paste (Tacky glue works well too) on it's front side.

and brush the glue over the back of the plate covering it completely.

Place the front side of the material (carefully positioning it) onto the back side of the glued plate and cover the back of the material after it is on the plate with a coat of glue too. Use your brush to work out any wrinkles that may appear.

Trim the excess material after the glue has dried with a sharp razor knife.  A coat of white paint sprayed or brushed on the back of the plate will intensify the depth of color if the material is thin (and light in color) like the material I used for the bunny plates.
Please note:  Adding a coating of a clear sealant on the back will help to make the plates easier to clean.
(do not submerge in water)
and
 Voila!

Have a wonderful day!

King O'Dell Saint Patrick's Day Tablescape

A happy Saint Patrick's Day to All!   And a great big thank you to Kathleen at Cuisine Kathleen's for hosting her 7th annual Saint Patrick's Day Blog Crawl.  All year I have collected little things here and there to put together a post for this occasion and today I get to see how my thrifty finds all come together.  The centerpiece is made from a basket I found this morning at the Volunteers of America Thrift store,  a wee Irish lass and her lovely harp also from the VOA, shamrock plants from Marc's (my favorite closeout store, and yellow   primrose from The Home Depot (4 plants for $3.00) plus a few odds and ends from the stash.

The tablecloth is actually a four yard piece of material from Goodwill in a lovely hunter green plaid pattern.  The dinnerware is the King O'Dell pattern made by Taylor Smith Taylor (a fine American made product), the flatware is Daffodil made by Rogers bought at auction from Goodwill, the Lillian Vernon shamrock placemats in the center of the table being used as a runner came from the Salvation Army Thrift Store,  the Lenox candle holders came from Goodwill, Candles from Marc's,  green stemware was thrifted but I don't remember where from,  the Lenox chargers were bought on Ebay (cheap) last year.  The green trimmed burlap napkins were bought last year when Pier One closed them out.  And my favorite - the cute little Jadiete bunny rabbit salt cellars were bought at the VOA this morning when I bought the baskets.

I couldn't resist adding the little sheep to the table.
I fell in love with this lovely lady the first time I laid eyes on her.
What's not to love about this St. Patrick O'Santa figure.

The shelves have been decked out with thrifty finds too.  Some are new (new to me that is) this year, some are from years gone by.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
