Got Snow? Winter Snowman Tablescape

If you live in our Southern States you probably have not had much (if any) snow this year but if you live in the Northern States you may have already had enough snow for the whole winter even though there is better than two months of snowy weather to go yet.  We spend most of our evenings in the family room with my husband watching TV while I work on my blog and visit around to other blogs to see what they have been up to.  When I am not out visiting or working on my blog I am usually looking out the patio doors at whatever seasonal decor and plants I have on the patio.  But in the winter there is not much to see except snow,  and there is a lot of snow out there right now.  To make the view more interesting I moved my fairy garden tub by the window to keep it a little closer to the house so that I could see it and to keep it out of most of the high winds and maybe a little warmer.  After I took the China Doll tree out of the fairy garden tub in the fall (and brought it into the house for the winter) I placed a faux pine tree in the container and some ceramic seasonal decor.  As the blizzard from the night before last was piling up around the garden I could not resist adding a couple of Winter Fairies to the scene.  The next morning I could see the sun shining brilliantly on the fairy garden   This is what I saw.............
Got Snow?
The fairies appeared to be enjoying themselves playing in the snow with the snowman that I had placed in the garden with them.

 Do fairies get cabin fever?

Do they worry if the roof will collapse under the snow load.

Do they contemplate nature and have lively discussions with snowmen?

We may never know.............

On to the tablescape - A Winter Snowman Tablescape
Plum Creek Place - Snowmen Winter Tablescape
Dollar store snowflakes are scattered about the table with one placed on each plate.  Vintage snowmen have been gathered together on the table around a centerpiece of white twigs and blue glittered pinecones.  Thrift store napkins are placed in the white snowflake napkin rings that Marigene sent to me before Christmas.
The flatware came from Goodwill.
The plates are marked Life @ Home
 The cups are marked Crofton.
Vintage snowmen were all thrifted except one that I bought on Ebay.
Clear Dollar Store snowflakes are placed around the centerpiece.

The centerpiece was placed into a frosted snowflake container that came from HomeGoods.
White twigs and blue glittered pinecones were bought at Marc's at 99 cents a bunch.
One snowman ornament bought at Marc's (two for 50 cents)was set into the arrangement.

Winterland Snowflakes and Ice Birthday Tablescape

December 4th, 2014
Winterland Snowflakes and Ice Birthday Tablescape

I don't know about you but I have been under the influence.  Under the influence of Pinterest that is! I had become obsessive looking for the perfect holiday decor to use in my home for this holiday season.  Every time I would pin an idea another would come along and just like that I was off in another direction ricocheting across the internet!  I finally settled down a bit when I started looking in my own backyard at all of the inspiration that I had bookmarked over the past seven or eight years.  The people and the blogs that had inspired me to blog,  the posts that I had seen at Alma's Seasonal Sundays, Susan's Tablescape Thursdays, and Kathleen's Let's Dish parties.  These are the people that inspired me along with their many followers that have shared their own posts through the years. One of my favorite inspirational tablescapes has been Lori's "Snowflakes and Ice" Tablescape from Dining Delight posted on January 14th in 2012.  Lori shared this tablescape at Tablescape Thursday and Seasonal Sundays plus several other link party sites.  The sparkle and shine of this beautiful table would brighten anybody's winter day.  This is one of several winter tablescapes that Lori has created with snowflakes,  glistening icy crystal like trees,  sparkling deer,  and delightful happy snowmen.   Make sure to get over there to visit and check out her wonderful tablescapes listed on the sidebar by clicking HERE.   I have been gathering snowmen and crystal trees at the thrift stores for nearly two years to use for icy sparkling winter tables this year and when my oldest son said he wanted a Winter Wonderland tablescape for his birthday (I think he wanted to try his new camera out) I knew this would be the table I would create.

The deer were bought at HomeGoods this year and the large snowflakes under the plates came from the Dollar Tree.  The plates are part of a Sakura Winter Frost set that my sons Rick and Bob gave me for my birthday.  The snowflake napkin rings were sent to me from Marigene at "In The Middle of Nowhere" when I had lamented about not having found any suitable napkin rings to do this table.

All of the stemware, candle holders, and tablecloth are thrift store purchases.

The flatware is Lenox - eight place settings bought at a garage sale for three dollars.  The plates are actually more of a baby blue and navy blue on white.  Sometimes I can not figure out why  some photographs do not capture the true colors of an item.

I was very pleased to find the deer at HomeGoods this fall.  They were just unpacking them when I saw them on the cart.  The young man helping me get them off the top shelf was so tickled that I was so happy with them.

The HomeGoods price was reasonable enough for me.   The deer that I had found out on the internet had been priced outrageously!

Little snowmen have been hoping into my cart while I have been out thrifting for years.  You will be seeing more of them over the next week or two.

The place card holders were a lucky find at the Salvation Army Family Store, they were new in their original boxes.
I had several glass blocks in my stash bought at thrift stores over the years, but I did buy two more at Hobby Lobby when they were on sale at half price.

Marc's had an amazing assortment of snowflakes this year.  I was like a kid in a candy store running around and buying snowflakes and icicles for this table and for the tree.  There were glass snowflakes and many assorted acrylic snowflakes.  The icicles I found were made of glass and 10 inches in length. At 66 cents each you know I stocked up on icicles!

It was dark by the time dinner was served for the birthday party so Rick took some pictures by candle light before we sat sown to eat.

I had originally planned a hunt tablescape for Rick's birthday dinner (as in everything was all washed, pressed and ready to go),  his birthday is early in November and when he said he wanted a winter wonderland tablescape for his birthday dinner I had to get busy and remove all of the fall decor on the shelves and rearranged the china cabinets for the holidays.  I went off to the storage unit and picked up all the little goodies that I had been packing away for this table for so long .  Linens were washed and ironed and all the glass was washed and shined for the occasion.  That was on Saturday - the dinner was on Sunday.  And on Monday all snowflakes and ice was packed back away and all of the fall was returned to the dining room until after Thanksgiving.

The other inspiration this year has been from my husband's little grand daughters.  It started last Christmas with the movie "Frozen" from Disney.  The girls have been endlessly fascinated by the movie and run around their house singing "Let It Go"  and if they are not singing "Let it Go" their little Elsa dolls are.  I decided to take my inspiration from their inspiration "Frozen".  I had always put up a traditional Christmas tree in the living room but this year I decided to "Let It Go"  and do a "Frozen" Christmas tree in the living room (there will be a traditional tree in the family room).   The Christmas tree was started on Monday - just a bit more tweaking before the skirt will be placed beneath the tree and it will be done.
I am still working on it.  The color distribution of the ornaments takes time. But you will get the general idea from the pictures.  Thank goodness for Marc's and the Dollar Tree.

 From the other side:
Have a wonderful week.  Remember to thrift on ladies, thrift on.

Radiant Orchids Winter Tablecape in Sivler and White

I wanted to do a Winter tablescape in silver and white, but I also wanted a compatible accent color that would incorporate the cool tones expressed by the silver that would not overwhelm the eye with color saturation. Just there, not overpowering. I wanted to use the lovely little orchids that I found at Home Depot last week. I decided that orchid would be my accent color and it turns out that Pantone chose Radiant Orchid as the color of the year for 2014.  Perfect!  The color is described by Pantone as a color that blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination. Radiant Orchid is also described as an expressive, creative and embracing purple.  A captivating harmony of fuchsia,  purple and pink undertones (I think that is enough of the verbiage).

My inspiration came from these tine little orchid plants.  They are available at Hone Depot for under five dollars each.  The flowers usually last for several weeks and even a couple of months if well cared for.
The pale orchid square chargers that were bought at Tuesday Morning (at 80 percent off) a couple of years ago The white Argent flatware was bought at a sidewalk sale at the same store last year.
The snowflake plates came from my favorite close out store ( Marc's)  for only $1.29 each.  I love the tiny snow flakes on the platinum like rim.
The wine glasses were bought at the Home Goods store after Christmas.  I love the way the silver fades to clear on these lovely wine glasses.

The tall mirror finish candle holders (only $2.99 each), the mirror finish votive holders holding the orchids, the silver tablecloth, and the silver napkins came from Marc's too.
The snowflake napkin rings and the snowflake candles came from our Volunteers of America store.

The purple sherbert stems were a thrift store find.

The mirrors came from our Goodwill store.

White and silver tablescape, Radiant Orchid

The shelves are decorated for winter with crystal nutcrackers, silver and white trees, and snowmen.
The china cabinet is sporting my new collection of Avon Hummingbird wine glasses, champagne flutes, water goblets, vases, candle holders,  cups, saucers, desert plates (six of each), and a pitcher.  All bought at Goodwill from fifty cents to three dollars for the pitcher.  All of the wine glasses were a dollar each,  cups, saucers, and desert plates were all at 50 cents each.

A few weeks ago I won a $25.00 gift card to the Home Good's store at Cuisine Kathleen's "Let's Dish" Linkie Party. I finally got out this week and found these beautiful Red champagne flutes that will be perfect for a Valentine's Day tablescape that I am planning.  Thank you Kathleen!!!

Home Depot has beautiful primrose plants in to remind us that spring will soon be here again.

Tulips will be blooming in my yard in about 90 days. I can't wait.

Have a great week,  I am looking forward to seeing every one at Laurie's Annual Valentine Par-tay on
February 7, 2014.  See you there!
