As luck would have it I found the some lovely nautical elements to
enhance this table setting while out thrifting and garage sale-ing over the last couple of
weeks. Several weeks ago I found a wire birdcage lighthouse that was finished in oil rubbed bronze. Cute, but not quite what I wanted. I spray painted it in Rust-oleum's Seaside color and then lightly sprayed it down with a bit of Heirloom white to brighten it up.
I did end up buying some crushed seashells pieces and some tumbled blue glass at Pat Catan's, a local craft store whose regular prices are the same or less than the big chain stores "sale" prices.
The blue glass reminds me of the color of the ocean water on the plates and the crushed shells remind me of the rocky shore that lighthouses are built on. Dear sweet hubby chose the napkins (also from Goodwill) and I modified the Double Sails napkin folding technique that I saw at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch tutorial you can find it here. Because the hems were thick on my napkins I folded both sides to the middle instead of to one side and proceeded with Susan's directions. They kind of look like a sailor's hat.
The lighthouse candlesticks, the sailboats, shells, and the captain are all thrifted.
The lighthouse in the lighthouse and the lighthouse salt and pepper shakers were bought at the Volunteers of America on the last Tuesday of the month in July. On the last Tuesday of each month everything is half price. Luckily I was able to go back to part time for a couple of weeks and was able to be there when they opened and made off with all of the lighthouse decor (which had just showed up on the shelves the night before)
More pictures.
.The black eyed Susan's are in full bloom around the patio, here are a few pictures, notice how the morning glories have managed to sneak into the other flower beds.
August 18th will be the first anniversary of my blog "Plum Creek Place". I would like to share an anniversary present with someone out there that would be interested in some lovely late Summer/fall table decor. I had bought a set of Park Design Sunny Day salt and Pepper shakers and a Sunny Day divided server plus the Sunny Day dip Bowl with Spreader and Some Fall Pattern Raymond Waites napkins for myself (from my favorite store Marc's). I was so pleased with them that I went back and bought an extra of each of those items and thought it would be nice to share the extra set with someone else.

Of course I can only share with one person. I would be very happy if that person were you. If you are a follower and have a shipping address in the lower 48 states of the U.S.A., and you would like to be the person I share this extra set of selected of Fall items with, just stop and leave a comment on this post by August 26th. I will announce whose comment was chosen at random to share my lovely extra set of Fall items with when I post again on August 27th.
I am participating at Cuisine Kathleen's Farewell to Summer Table challenge.
Until then Remember what Kathleen said in her last post about the Official Halfway Mark of Summer.

It sure isn't fall yet, and I'm not ready for it anyway! It is still hot as blue blazes here, and h-u-m-i-d!!!! This morning it was as if someone had just poured a vat of lard into the atmosphere!!! I'm staying indoors as much as possible because humidity like this wreaks havoc with my skin and hair...and attitude!!!
ReplyDeleteYou must have some really, really good thrift place near you. It is rare that I find really good stuff no matter which one I visit. Sigh! :-(
I used to have a really great collection of lighthouses. I sold them all when I had a massive yard sale a few years back. Regretting it every day of my life since then! I LOVE lighthouses, and your dishes are especially fun because they're lighthearted.
It's cool that your husband chose the napkins! You did a good job on the napkin fold. I've never tried that one, but I like it. You did a great job on the wire lighthouse, too. The new color really makes it look a lot more nautical!
I live in the lower 48 and would love to have the cool fall items you bought! I live a stone's throw away (10 minutes from the state line) from the Sunflower State (KS), so it would work out great for a lot of tablescapes. Drop my name in that hat! :-)
Have a great weekend!
I am simply in love with this table setting - the colors are wonderful - the plates are simply fantastic - oh so very summery. Love the birdcage lighthouse - you find the greatest items. All the lighthouses and the captain - one of my favorites on the table. Such detail and so many pretties. Oh your flowers are divine - absolutely divine.
ReplyDeleteAnd your give-away - what treasures - I've admired that sunflower bowl since the first time I saw it on your table - you are so generous with your giveaway - and congrats on the anniversary of your blog. You are so good at it, it seems like you've been blogging for much longer.
Hi Candy, I love your pretty nautical-themed tablescape! Those lighthouse plates are my VERY favorite!! My parents had a condo at the beach for about 12 years, and I think my mom would have loved those plates. :) Your centerpiece is so pretty, and I love the pretty blue of your placemats and the blue tumbled glass. Your flatware is the perfect color, too. :-D This table setting REALLY makes me want to visit the beach now, Candy; I'm hoping maybe hubby and I can go in October or late September. He's on a project at work right now, so we'll just have to see.
ReplyDeleteYour tablescape is perfect for Kathleen's challenge; I'm hoping to participate in that one too. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Hugs,
Denise
How beautiful, Candy! I love this table, such pretty colors. I love the light house too. Christine
ReplyDeleteHi Candy, such a fabulous table. You have some awesome pieces to make this table so cool. Love the lighthouse centerpiece. You let no stone unturned. The candle holders, the netting, beach decor galore. Love it! Congrats on your first blog anniversary. Special treat with those Black eyed Susans. Have a lovely week. xo
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot I am your newest follower. I would love a chance to win your wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCandy, a couple of suggestions for your blog, I would move your followers up and also add the sharing links at the bottom of your post so you can get more exposure.....
I moved the followers up and moved the Pinterest down. Then I noticed that I was not showing on Google Plus, so I fixed that while I was at it. Now my Google plus followers show too. Thank you for the tips Linda. I appreciate all of the help I can get. Things just seem to happen all by themselves on Google Plus. Every couple of weeks I have to fix the no-reply blogger thing. That is so strange. Thanks again, Candy
ReplyDeleteHow have I missed you, let me count the ways. The colors melt my heart. So clever how you added the blue glass and crushed seashells. All your thrifty finds are fabulous. Like a previous commenter, our Goodwill and other places rarely have such beautiful pieces, or maybe I don't visit enough. I think my favorite, if I have to pick one is the blue light house that you spray painted. I am off to pin and share.
ReplyDeleteI love your lighthouse tablescape. Lighthouses reminds me of my mother-in-law, she collects them. The sailboat glasses were a great find. Your tables always amaze me.
ReplyDeleteHi Candy,
ReplyDeleteI love lighthouses, the more colourful, the better. There's just something about these pretty and practical places that inspire me, perhaps because they are a part of the water world that I feel so close to. Your nautical tablescape came at the perfect time for me, today, as I need some happy and vibrant reds, blues and whites to cheer me up in view of some recent sad news. You have put together such a lovely setting and the creativity behind it is most evident. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with us and spreading some sea, sand, and sunshine our way.
Happy first year anniversary for Plum Creek Place; all the best!
xx
Poppy
I love the way you carried this theme through and kept it simple, yet beautiful. With all of the thifthing I do I've yet to come across many nautical pieces. Oh well, there's always next year!
ReplyDeleteWow so pretty and the best thing is u used recycled stuff I love to find good bargains. Lena
ReplyDeleteThank you Lena. Without the bargains there would be no tablescape. For me it is the thrill of the hunt to come up with what I need to do a table without having to buy at retail.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful table! Just proves you can do something fabulous without spending a fortune! I vist thrift stores three times a week, usually on senior discount days, and my friends call me their "personal shopper" because I keep lists for everybody of what to look for!! Thrift stores are a great source for many items!
ReplyDeleteOh, Candy, you have knocked this tablescape out of the ballpark!! It's wonderful. I love all your elements, but particularly the plates, napkins and lighthouse centerpiece! I have a small collection of lighthouses (I've always loved nautical decor), but have yet to use them in a tablescape: you've been an inspiration!! Well done, and thank you so much for sharing. Rosie @ The Magic Hutch P.S. LOVE your napkin fold, too!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, one more thing: a big CONGRATULATIONS on your blogaversary!!!!! Rosie
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by to visit Rosie. I feel about lighthouses like I do nutcrackers, you can never have to many. I love them summer, winter, spring, and fall. Nutcrackers and lighthouses! I collect both and have come across some really wonderful finds this year. And it didn't hurt a thing that I bought most of them at half price at the thrift store! I have bought several more of the lighthouses since this tablescape was posted, including another set of lighthouse dinnerware ( 8 plates, salad plates, and coffee cups). It will be summer again before you know it and I will be ready.
ReplyDeleteOoh Candy this table is spectacular i can' believe how you found the lighthouse stuff they look fabulous. I grew up on the Jersey Shore and light houses have always been my favorite. we live near one called Point Loma Cabrillo Light house that lets you see for miles it is my special place to go. the colors of your design were so on with each other but my absolute favorite item are the crushed blue shells how did they match the blue you are using? I celebrate my year in December .I;ve said this before and I ;ll say it again I wish you lived closer so we could go thrifting together. ReplyDeleteCandy, This is so pretty. I love those turquoise place mats, and they are perfect for the nautical theme. Those lighthouse candle holders are so cute.
