Taking Time to Give Thanks

With Thanksgiving a week from today  my thoughts are of preparing a meal to share with my family next Thursday.  In my heart I know that there are many who will not have a home to go to for Thanksgiving.  I know there are many who will have no food to share with their families for Thanksgiving. And I know that there are many suffering from debilitating disease and illness and will not be with their loved ones for Thanksgiving. I think it would be good for me to remember how very lucky I am and to give true heartfelt thanks for all of my blessings.

I am truly most thankful for my family.
I am thankful for our friends.

I am thankful that we are able to provide food on our table for our family, and that all of those that we love are also able to provide food for their families.

I am thankful for the good health that we are blessed with and I am thankful that our children, and our grandchildren are blessed with good health.  I pray for my sister in law who is recovering from a bad fall, and for my brother who is recovering from surgery.

I am thankful that we are able to provide shelter for and care for our pets. We pray for our cat that is ill and we are truly thankful that she is still here to celebrate her sixteenth Thanksgiving in our family.

We are thankful for our home. We pray for all who have suffered the loss of their homes,  whether it was from the wrath of nature or from a bank that couldn't or wouldn't  forestall foreclosure.

No matter how busy I am during the holiday season I will try to always remember to give thanks for all that we have.

I will make a point of making sure the bird feeders are kept full and that water is available for the birds to use when the weather brings freezing temperatures.

I will be as generous as I can afford when I give to the Salvation Army throughout the holiday season.

I will make a point to shop for a gift for a little boy and a gift for a little girl that I can donate to Toys for Tots.

I will donate to the Red Cross because they can be there to feed and comfort those who have suffered overwhelming loss and I cannot.

Whenever the cashier at the grocery store asks me if I want to donate five dollars - I will say sure - why not.

I will do these things because I can. And for that I am truly thankful.

I am thankful.........

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving.

  1. What beautiful Thanksgiving images. Your table is beautiful. Those chargers are gorgeous and I love the leaf-patterned plates. What a beautiful glass vase with leaves painted on it. I love that pilgrim couple - the man with a garden implement and the woman who looks like she's praying. A wonderful time of the year to remind ourselves of all of our blessings, and you've done a wonderful job of it in this post. laurie

  4. Such a lovely post and what a beautiful table! This morning we picked our gifting family at church and there was a mother who wanted new flatware, which I thought must have been God speaking directly to me. We went to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought her beautiful stainless and it will make me happy to think of her serving her family on Christmas with her shiny new forks and spoons. Your post reminded me that we are very blessed in our lives.
