Every year for my birthday I treat myself to a trip to the Home Goods Store (and Tuesday Morning a couple of doors down). I love fall dishes. This year I found 8 (count them eight all at one time all at one store) Of 222 Fifth Fall Foliage plates along with some bright orange owl plates. Plus others that you will see over the next few weeks.
The owls are just the cutest things ever. They really have a personality of their own. They looked pretty good with the 222 Fifth plates and my Lace by Kennex creamy yellow chargers. I wanted the beauty of the golds, oranges, and reds without being dark. So this is an early fall tablescape. And yes, I am still clinging to summer even if the leaves are already falling in my neighborhood.
The flatware was a find at the Marks Store a couple of doors up from the Home Goods store. For those of you that don't live in Northern Ohio, Marc's is a closeout store (and a pretty good grocery store & drug store). They come up with some of the greatest finds which you will see over the course of time. The copper leaf under the fork was cut from an old candle holder (hubby cut them off for me today as a matter of fact). The yellow napkins are almost a perfect match in color to the chargers. The tablecloth was a goodwill find that looks like linen but I suspect it's not.
The water glasses and wine glasses were also a Marc's find. The wooden rooster candle holders came from a garage sale last week (cheap).
The faux autumn leaves and placemats came from Marc's along with the fresh flowers.
Thank you for visiting with me today. I really enjoy the company. When you come back I would like to show you some pictures of some of my fall decorating. I have just begun over the last week or so. Last Sunday I added a few things to my kitchen hutch for fall. The hutch itself was a Goodwill find for $12.50 plus tax of course. It took a couple of cans of black spray paint to cover the ugly yellow mid sixty bamboo finish. It came out pretty good. Wish the picture was better for you. This came out the best out the dozen I took.
I do hope you come back soon. Enjoy the fall, soon enough it will be winter and all of this will be a memory. Make the most of those memories. Go out, have some fun, Enjoy nature's amazing fireworks show as the trees are changing to blazing colors across the hillsides. Go pick some apples with the family. Just go, Enjoy.

Love this table! The owls are adorable and those roosters are just too cute! I wish that we had a Marc's - great finds there. I do not even have a Home Goods close by - makes me sad every time I see the fabulous things people buy there. Beautiful job, Candy - thanks for sharing your Fall decorating, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane, When I asked the gentleman at the garage sale how much he wanted for the two rooster candle holders and the larger centerpiece rooster and he said one dollar, all I could say was sold!! I feel for you not having a Home Goods Store That's like the greatest go-to store ever when you are shopping for holiday accents. Most of the time I am content with my "finds" from garage sales and thrift stores, but once in a while I have the urge to get up to the HG and get myself something really cute.
DeleteI love your new fall plates and the owl plates are a real hoot. You did such an awesome job on your kitchen hutch!. Joni
ReplyDeleteThank you Joni, I laughed out loud when I saw those owls. My rule of thumb is if something makes me laugh out loud when I see it, I am buying it!
DeleteI think shopping for dishes is a great way to celebrate a birthday, and you were certainly lucky to find so many of the same pattern in one stop. Great job transforming the hutch! Linda
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, That was the first time that I found plates that I liked at the Home Goods and was able to get enough without having to run around to Marshall's and TJ Max to get enough for eight settings. I had wanted a hutch top for my black table in the kitchen for a long time when I saw this one at Goodwill. It was the homeliest thing ever. No one bought it at $25.00 they were asking for it, after four week it was marked down to 1/2 price so I bought it. What the heck, this hutch had some good bones to work with. It was sturdy and I kind of liked the bamboo trim on it. Once that awful yellowy color was spray painted black I really grew to like it.
DeleteAll if your accessories are terrific and work together to makes. Very playful table.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by Lulu ! I wanted to create a fun, bright and cheery table. I am not ready for the duller colors of fall yet. Love those yellows and oranges.
DeleteYour hutch is beautiful! I love all the Fall leaves on your table. (Well, I just love leaves pretty much anywhere.) Your table is beautiful, full of vibrant color, and fun with the owl!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kim @ Curtain Queen Creates
Hi Kim, Thank you for stopping by. I do love the look of the leaves scattered around the table on the off white tablecloth. The hutch has come a long way since I bought it. For whatever reason I have really liked black furniture over the last 10 years or so.
DeleteI've never heard of Marc's, but I sure wish there was one close to me. What great finds! That stemware is wonderful, and the flatware too. Those owl plates are so cute, and I love the plates with the leaf pattern. Well done! laurie
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie, I appreciate you stopping in to visit. Marc's certainly is a fun place to find surprises. You never know what they will have in the closeout isles.
DeleteI love, love, love those glasses and the sprinkle of autumn leaves throughout the table. Candy, this is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan. I really appreciate hearing from you. Whenever I see something that I think would look good in a tablescape I buy it (if it is reasonably priced). I found the glasses off season but I knew I would want to use them someday for a fall tablescape. I think that might be something I learned from you!
DeleteA perfect design for celebrating the approaching Autumn...great colors! I'm eager to see more about the hutch...unbelievably great 'get'! Thanks for inviting us for a peak. Cherry Kay
ReplyDeleteHi Cherry Kay, I will do a post on the Hutch. Hopefully with better pictures. There is no natural light in my kitchen for taking a good picture. Maybe I can get a light bar so the hutch will show up better. Thanks for stopping by to visit!
DeleteYou found yourself some great bargains there ... I love going op shopping you can get so much more for your money and you know everything has a story and some history behind it. Your table setting is perfect for autumn, I especially like the owl!
ReplyDeleteOpportunity purchases can really be your best buys. I found some of my favorite tablescaping dishes this summer when we had a citywide garage sale. Some of the stories behind a few of the items I bought this year actually brought me to tears. I feel like the caretaker for someone's beloved items.
DeleteYour hutch is beautiful! And you have laid such a cheery fall table! Love those owl plates, and the others are so pretty too! It was meant to be!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jacqueline, It really is fun to do a seasonal table like this. I collect little things all year to use. I never know what I will find. It's funny how one thing will set the tone for the whole table.
DeleteI love your hutch! What a find, fabulous price and great paint job. But those dishes, I just love ~love~love them! Especially the owls. So cute xo
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, Thank you for coming by to visit. I found the hutch late last fall. I was going to leave it in the garage for the winter because it was to cold to paint outside. As luck would have it we got a warm day and Hubby loaded it up on the hand dolly and wheeled it to the backyard. It took several coats of paint and barely was dry when the temperature dropped below 50 degrees.
DeleteGreat job,Candy! And in the knick of time! xo
DeleteGreat table! Love those fall leaf plates...it's all gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteHi Candy,
ReplyDeleteGorgeous autumn table setting, perfect for those cozy dinners. Your dishes complement each other so perfectly and the owls are TOO adorable; what a great find! Enjoy all the ambiance!
Poppy
Thank you Poppy, This was such a fun table to do. I love fall colors. My husband loves to eat at the table when it is all fancied up. Many times I come home from work and he has set the table every bit as nice as I could ever do.
DeleteI can totally relate to running around from store to store looking for a complete set of something. I'm still hoping to find the rest of one particular set that I'm using later this year. Beautiful table!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennie, I hope you find your pattern before you are going to need it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tablescape, Candy! Love those autumn colors! I want to answer your questions, but my answer is long and since you are on Google+, you are a "no-reply blogger"....I can't get your email address. If you would please contact me at confessionsofaplateaddict@yahoo.com, I can answer. Thanks!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun fall table setting! I love Home Goods! I could spend hours there. I don't think we have a Marc's in Denver, which might be a good thing for me and my pocketbook I guess!
ReplyDeleteI love your early fall table! I've been on vacation (now that I've retired!!!) but have some ideas for several fall tables when I get back! I also love how you redid you hutch!! What else have you redone? I'm going to start following your blog so I can catch up on your great posts! Thanks for visiting mine!
